Napoleon, Blown Apart

· Joshua Buergel

After leaving my previous job and having a couple months off, I found my creativity restored and began designing a new card game. Inspired by a round of Knock-Out Whist with my daughter and nephew, I started thinking about puttting a larger structure around that idea. In this idea, the scoring interval is the hand instead of the trick. In playing with the idea, it quickly proved to be entertaining, and I realized that it might make for a (crude) model of a military campaign. Each hand then becomes a battle, the players would have resources that they have to allocate across the battles, and the game kept developing.

You can read the articles I’ve written about the development of the game here, read the latest rules here, and download a print-and-play of the cards here and here (both decks are needed to play).
