Five Songs Special, 8/21/2017

It's eclipse day! I hope everybody had a chance to check things out. I did here, and I thought it was pretty neat, but the boy didn't seem to care very much. Ah well. In honor of the event, we have our first Five Songs Special! I searched for "moon" in my library, giving 261 tracks. I then used random.org to generate five numbers, picked those tracks, and got us this list! Enjoy it along with me, won't you?

The Rolling Stones, "Moonlight Mile"

I basically don't listen to anything by the Stones outside of the four studio album run of Beggar's Banquet, Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers, and Exile on Main St.. But that's one hell of a run right there. Anyway, my favorite album of that bunch shifts around pretty regularly - I'd say right now, I listen to the first of them more than the others.

Pinegrove, "Size of the Moon"

Pinegrove is one of my favorite discoveries from last year's stroll through the Best Of lists. Reminding me of a top-of-their-game Clem Snide, Pinegrove plays soulful country-inspired rock. Just a great album.

Overwhelming Colorfast, "Starcrunch"

Basically a Hüsker Dü tribute act, Overwhelming Colorfast played super crunchy power pop. The did a pretty good job of it, putting together three very listenable albums, but overall, they were also kind of forgettable. (The "moon" connection here comes from the album name, Moonlight and Castanets.)

The Mooney Suzuki, "It's Not Easy"

Garage rockers out of New York City, I remember buying this album, but I don't really remember listening to it much. It got a lot of critics excited back in the day. This song is pretty good?

Modest Mouse, "Lives"

Huh, we've already had this song. I'm going to leave this here and put in a bonus song! (Again, the "moon" is in the album title.)

Spoon, "Back to the Life"

I still have nothing much to say about Spoon. I do like this song, though. And, once again, the album title is the moon connection.
